| Biography My name is Gwendolyn Maroon, and Blooming Balconies is my business. I have many gardening credentials, so to give you a picture of who you are hiring, I have written up a brief history of my life in reference to gardening. I started gardening as a toddler, following my parents around their small city garden. Imagine my delight when our family moved to the country, and I had acreage to play in! I never gave up my gardening spirit. While raising a family and pursuing a teaching career, I kept my gardening knowledge current by taking a variety of classes in my spare time. I have taken workshops on pruning, native plants, perennials, water-wise landscaping, continuous colour and container plants, as well as courses in landscape design, perennial placement, and container gardening. I expanded my knowledge even further by working in gardening stores, both in Victoria and in Ottawa. While living in Ottawa, I was first enchanted by the idea of opening my own business. I operated "Blooming Balconies - Garden Design for Small Spaces" and successfully completed many gardens for townhouses, courtyards, condo balconies, and small-space backyards. When my family moved to Toronto three years later, I continued the business on a consultation level, in addition to teaching part time. Now my family has permanently returned to Victoria, and you can imagine how thrilled I am to be home! I am bringing with me the experience of the harsh gardening zones in Ottawa and Toronto, and with my new expertise I am beautifying balcony, townhouse, and small gardens here in Victoria. |
